Privacy & legal information

Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Roam iPhone app and this product website. It explains what stays on your device and when online services are involved.

Last updated: October 9, 2026

No account, advertising or analytics SDKs.

Saved places and journey settings are stored on your device. Photo import reads location and date metadata, not image files. Apple’s map, place-search and weather services need online requests.

Use this address for support, privacy questions and requests concerning personal data.

2. What Roam does

Roam shows your position and movement, helps you follow a journey between selected places, and keeps a collection of visited places. You can use the app without creating an account. Roam does not use advertising networks, tracking SDKs or automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

3. Location and movement

With your permission, Roam uses iOS Location Services to display latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, direction and accuracy. Location updates are used while the app is active. Roam does not continuously record your route or run background location tracking.

The current reading is held in memory for display. If you choose to use your current location as a journey endpoint or save it as a visited place, that selected coordinate is stored locally. Coordinates can also be used in Apple service requests described in section 6.

You can deny, limit or revoke location access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Roam. Some features will then be unavailable or less precise.

4. Saved places, journey settings and files

Roam stores visited-place names, coordinates, visit dates, country and city information, and selected journey endpoints on your device. It also caches weather results and photo-import progress locally. The current version has no mercundo account, server synchronization or Roam CloudKit synchronization.

KML import reads the file you choose. KML export writes a file containing the places you select for export. The app does not automatically upload either file to mercundo. If you save or share an exported file using iCloud Drive or another service, that service processes it under its own privacy terms.

Device backups may include app data according to your Apple backup settings. The controller has no access to the contents of your device or your personal backups.

5. Optional photo import

If you start photo import and grant access, Roam reads location and creation-date metadata from accessible photos to suggest visited places. Limited Photos access means only the photos you allow are scanned. Photo coordinates are grouped on the device; the suggested places and latest visit dates can be reviewed before import.

Roam does not request image files, thumbnails or original photo resources for this feature. It does not upload photos, download originals from iCloud or modify your photo library. Suggested coordinates may be sent to Apple’s place-resolution service to find city and country names. A local draft keeps import progress so you can continue later.

You can change or revoke Photos access in iOS Settings. Revoking permission stops further access; it does not automatically remove places you already imported. You can delete those places in Roam.

6. Apple maps, place search and weather

Roam uses Apple MapKit, geocoding and place-search services to show the map, find locations, and resolve place names, countries and time zones. These requests can include search text, map areas and the coordinates being looked up. WeatherKit requests use the coordinates of selected journey endpoints to retrieve current weather. Internet requests also involve connection information such as an IP address.

These services are provided by Apple, rather than a mercundo location-history server. Apple processes service data under its own terms and privacy notices. Refer to Apple’s Privacy Policy, Apple Maps & Privacy, Location Services & Privacy, and WeatherKit information.

7. Website hosting and support

This website does not include advertising, visitor analytics, tracking pixels, embedded third-party content or cookies set by its page code. Fonts and images are served with the website. The site does not request your device’s location or Photos access.

To deliver the website and protect it against misuse, the hosting infrastructure supplied through OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare may process technical request data, including IP address, time, requested URL, browser information and error or security information. The purpose is reliable, secure delivery, rather than advertising or visitor profiling. Infrastructure providers may use technically necessary security mechanisms.

If you contact us by email, we process your address, message and any information you choose to send so we can respond. Email is handled through Microsoft Outlook. Please send only information needed to explain your question.

8. Legal bases, recipients and international processing

Where the GDPR applies, providing app functions and responding to service-related requests is based on Article 6(1)(b). Optional access to location or photo metadata is based on your permission and, where consent is the applicable basis, Article 6(1)(a). Consent can be withdrawn through device settings without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.

Operating and securing the website and handling general correspondence is based on Article 6(1)(f), our legitimate interests in providing a reliable website and answering enquiries. Legal obligations may require processing under Article 6(1)(c).

Relevant recipients include Apple for the Apple services you use, the website’s technical hosting providers and Microsoft for email correspondence. We do not sell personal data or pass your saved places to advertisers. Service providers may process data outside the European Economic Area; their applicable privacy terms describe processing locations and safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

9. Retention and deletion

Saved places remain on your device until you delete them. Roam lets you remove individual places or delete all places. Selected journey endpoints can be cleared in their selection dialogs. Photo-import drafts are removed after a completed import or when discarded; cached weather and settings may remain until replaced or the app’s data is removed. Deleting the app, rather than offloading it, removes its on-device data. Separate backups and exported KML files are governed by where you keep them.

Support messages are retained while needed to address your request and any follow-up, or to meet applicable legal obligations. Hosting providers retain technical data under their operational and security policies; this website does not maintain a separate visitor database.

10. Your rights

Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you have rights to access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time and complain to a competent data-protection supervisory authority, including the authority in your country of residence or the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Saxony-Anhalt.

Contact mercundo@outlook.com to exercise rights concerning data held by the controller. Because we do not receive your locally saved places or photo-import metadata, we cannot retrieve or delete them remotely. Manage those data in Roam or through your device settings. For data processed independently by Apple or another provider, use that provider’s privacy controls.

11. Security and policy updates

Roam uses iOS storage and permission controls. Website and Apple service connections use encrypted transport. Protect your device with a passcode and keep iOS up to date. This policy will be updated if Roam’s functions or its data processing change; the date above identifies the current version.
